1. Start with purpose and location
Decide whether your hut will be a garden office, creative studio, guest space or rental unit. This affects layout, services, insulation and finish.
2. Choose your build route
A chassis-only option leaves most of the build to you. A self-build kit supplies major components while you manage assembly and interior fit-out.
3. Finalise dimensions and openings
Plan furniture, headroom, natural light and access before deciding on size and window and door positions. Record the agreed specification before ordering.
4. Budget for the whole project
Allow for components, delivery, tools, insulation, lining, electrics, heating, furnishings, site preparation, services and a contingency.
5. Check delivery and permissions
Make sure the site can accept the delivery vehicle and hut. Check planning and building-control requirements with the relevant authorities before committing.
